Tune up your computer

Photobucket                                                                                                                          Here is a list of things you can do to speed up your computer, you may follow all or some of the advise. I suggest you don't perform any task you feel is beyond your level of experience ,but before you do anything I suggest you set a restore point  .The first thing I would do is power cycle your modem and router and run a scan with security program to make sure a virus is not the source of your problem . A program like Malwarebytes anti malware is very good for removing viruses .
Step 1 you can go to programs and features and turn off many windows features more than likely you don't need many of them. I personally have turned off everything except windows media player and windows search I don't use internet explorer and therefore don't need it as far as the other options many of them have been replaced by third party software if a program or feature stops working  you may simply recheck that item and it will be restored .Step 2 go to performance information and tools turning off visual features will decrease the work load on your computer .Here is a list of features you should keep that will keep your windows looking good . Enable Aero peak ,enable desktop composition  ,show thumbnails instead of icons, smooth edges of screen fonts ,smooth scroll list boxes  and use visual styles on windows and buttons you can disable the rest they will have little effect on the appearance of windows , but will increase performance once they are disabled.Keep in mind adjusting visual effect may disturb aero peek if so go to control, trouble shoot then troubleshoot aero peek
Step 3 Disabling programs from start up will increase performance ,and this is probably the most important tweak . Every time you download a new program a new program gets added to start up . To disable programs from start up click the following start, control, administrative tools ,system configuration, start up uncheck everything except security and anything you consider crucial. Step 4 download the following      Ccleaner from filehippo ,wise registry cleaner and prio .Step 5 reinstalling browser can help since it can be damaged internet explorer will not uninstall since its part of windows.Step 6 click the following  control, administrative tool, system configuration, boot, advanced boot, then check off  maximum number of processors  in the drop list ,  and check off max memory . I also suggest Firefox Aurora this is the fastest version  . One problem your computer may have if it is running slowly is it may not have enough ram you need at least 2 GB of ram to run smoothly not including running games .To find out how much ram is installed click the following control, administrative tools ,system configuration, tools, then click on system information then launch a new window will appear look for installed physical memory you should have at least 2GB or a bare minimum of 1 GB if you do not you must upgrade A  very useful tool for upgrading and maximizing your ram if needed is crucial system scanner  . Yet another tip is resetting your modem and router by unplugging them and pressing the reset button will seriously increase speed in some cases , and yet another method for increasing speed is by using uniblue process scanner which will give you a break down of everything going on in your computer , and yet another trick for speeding up boot time is setting your PC to hibernate instead of shutting down this will give you a immediate start up . If you have tried all these steps and your PC is still slow you might consider restoring factory settings  how you you do that is different in every pc  google the words restore "make and model pc " to factory settings then look for the blog ehow  or lifehacker those two are the best. PS I have recently found a nice little program I thought I should add to this article it's called internet accelerator 2  .
